Overarching Statement: A Visual Inquiry
This body of work is the visual record of a deeply personal inquiry into the nature of life itself. It is born from a relentless curiosity about the deeper meanings hidden beneath the surface of reality, and a profound sense of the soul’s role within our worldly existence. I see my art as a form of research, a way to explore what lies beyond the limitations of our senses. The tulip, in its fleeting and cyclical journey, became the perfect collaborator in this quest. Each series is a step further in a personal evolution, an attempt to translate the whispers of the universe into a language of light, color, and time. This is my dialogue with the infinite.
Artist’s Statement
Seeing Consciously Subconscious
“I was listening to a story told in a language I did not know yet, a story that was not addressed to me or any other human, a story that was not for us to hear.” – Monica Gagliano, Thus Spoke the Plant
This series delves into the conviction that there is a vibrant consciousness in nature, a silent dialogue happening just beyond the threshold of our human senses. My artistic process evolved into an attempt to listen to this dialogue and translate its nuances. To do this, I deconstructed the visible world, removing familiar contexts to better perceive the energetic patterns beneath.
Each work in this series is a diptych, consisting of two distinct but deeply connected pieces: a ‘Conscious’ and a ‘Subconscious’ vision. The ‘Conscious’ work is a more deliberate, structured interpretation of the flower’s energy, while the ‘Subconscious’ piece is its abstract, untamed echo. Presented together, they form a more complete conversation. They explore the duality of existence—the structured form and the formless soul, the seen and the unseen. They are my field notes from listening to a language I am only just beginning to understand.
“We breathe each other in and out of existence, one made by the exhalation of the other.”
― Monica Gagliano
