About Dennis Khalil
Welcome to the page about Dennis Khalil. I am a Dutch-Egyptian conceptual artist based in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. His work originates from the creative tension between two cultures: the structured rationality of his Dutch upbringing and the symbolic mysticism of his Egyptian heritage. Through his photographic practice, he conducts a visual inquiry into consciousness, time, and the unseen layers of reality.
Artistic Practice
Time is a primary tool in Khalil’s artistic process. He explores the relationship between humanity and nature by allowing subjects to live, transform, and decay before the lens. Analog subjects are brought into the digital realm, where time is manipulated to portray themes of growth, vitality, and impermanence. By layering imagery with symbolic elements, his work invites the viewer to look beyond the surface and question the nature of perception itself.
Background
Born in Nijmegen, Khalil’s fascination with creation began with Lego and evolved into a deep engagement with computer animation, film, and photography. Largely self-taught, his distinct artistic vision was forged through rigorous personal experimentation. A brief period at the Academy for Visual Arts in Tilburg solidified his independent approach to the medium, choosing to follow his own path free from academic conventions.
Career Highlights
Khalil’s exploration of time and layered realities has resulted in several distinct collections. His practice reached a significant milestone with his inaugural international exhibition, a collaborative endeavor with the acclaimed artist Gijs van Lith at RH Contemporary Gallery in New York.
A complete overview of his exhibitions and publications can be found on his CV page.
