Artist’s Statement
When somebody is still, she is still moving.
Everything exists in a simultaneous state of movement and stillness. Only time reveals the difference. A tree appears motionless until a time-lapse shows it reaching, bending, growing. The body, too — while apparently at rest — is always dynamic, always changing, however imperceptibly.
In this series, multiple images of a subject in different positions are assembled into a single static frame. The resulting image appears still. But it is composed entirely of movement. It holds opposing states at once — and in that tension, finds balance.
Just as life requires its two opposites to function, this work requires both stillness and motion to exist. Neither is possible without the other. Neither is the full picture alone.
